Buried Village Summer Newsletter

The team at the Buried Village would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. A big thank you to all those who have supported us throughout 2011.

-Summer Hours and Guided Tour Times -

We are open 9.00am – 5.00pm daily over summer (Except Christmas Day)
With the holiday season fast approaching we will be increasing the number of guided tours we offer daily as of Boxing Day (26th Dec) through to the end of January 2012.

Tour times will be at: 9.30am, 10.30am, 11.30am, 1.30pm, 2.30pm, 3.30pm

Guided tours are optional and are included in the admission price. We advise that visitors who would like to take a guided tour arrive 15-30mins prior to the tour starting this way there is time to look through our Museum. No worries If a guided tour is not suitable the Buried Village is easy to self-guide with lots of interpretive signage and an easy to follow path.

Admission:

Our admission rates until the 31st March 2012 are as follows:

Adult: $31.00
Child: $8.00
Family Pass (2 Adults and Children 5-15 years):$62.00
Family Pass (1 Adult and Children 5 -15 years) :$39.00
Rotorua Residents FOC with proof of residency

-Mobile Version Website-

With the increasing number of people using smartphones Buried Village has created a mobile version of their website. Visitors accessing the Buried Village website on their smartphone will automatically be directed to the new site allowing them to access instant information in regards to cost, location and information about the Buried Village experience. Christmas is just around the corner and for all of you who have yet to complete your Christmas shopping we have a great range of gifts in store. Including a fantastic range of carved items and New Zealand Greenstone. The friendly shop staff will be more than happy to gift wrap any items brought.

-Treat yourself this Christmas Lemon Polenta-

(A tasty treat from Vi's Teahouse)

Christmas is the time of the year when good friends and family get together and enjoy each other's company as well as great food. So why not treat yourself and visitors this year with a delicious Lemon Polenta cake. It is one of our favourites served at Vi's Teahouse at the Buried Village.

Ingredients:

200grm Butter
1 Cup Castor Sugar
3 Eggs
2 Cups of Almond Meal
½ Cup Polenta
1 tsp Baking Powder
1 Tbsp Grated Lemon Grind
½ Cup Lemon Juice
1 ½ tsp Orange Blossom

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one by one followed by the rest of the ingredients. Spread mixture into a 20cm baking pan. Bake at 180 degrees for one hour. Alternatively put mixture in muffin tins and bake for 30 minutes.

Lemon Compose:

2 Lemons
1Cup Sugar
1 Cup Water

Cut lemons into quarters and then slice each quarter thinly. Put in a asaucepan with sugar and water. Bring to the boil and cook until thick and syrupy. Spread on top of cake or muffins.
