Buried Village awarded tourism official mark of quality

1 November 2011

Buried Village continues to be recognised as one of the country’s leading tourism operators by Qualmark. Excellent results were achieved and the Qualmark Assessor stated “ The outcome at this assessment reflects your continued attention to detail in all aspects of the criteria and assessment process. Well Done!”

To earn the prestigious mark, Buried Village underwent a comprehensive on-site assessment, to ensure it met all the appropriate criteria, focusing on the service, facilities, safety and operating systems the business has in place.

Owner Pam McGrath says “I am absolutely thrilled with the result, our small dedicated team strives for excellence in all areas and this shows that the hard work is paying off”.

Qualmark’s endorsement programme offers quality assurance for a full range of tourism operations, such as adventure activities, transport providers, cultural and nature experiences.

“With so many varied activities available to tourists in New Zealand, the Qualmark endorsement programme offers a clear and easy way to choose experiences which you can be sure will live up to  expectations”, says Qualmark General Manager, Tim Keeling.  “A Qualmark endorsed business has undergone a rigorous and independent assessment to ensure it meets strict industry developed criteria, checking the quality of safety procedures, facilities, customer service and overall delivery.”

“Remember only Qualmark endorsed businesses can display New Zealand tourism’s mark of quality assurance”.

The Assessment criteria has been developed in conjunction with the tourism industry, it is based on research into travellers’ expectations, and is specific to each type of business.

The Qualmark endorsement system sits alongside the Qualmark star rating system for accommodation providers.  Over 2,300 accommodation and tourism businesses throughout New Zealand have been through the assessment process and are Qualmark licence holders.

Qualmark is jointly owned by Tourism New Zealand and the New Zealand Automobile Association.  Qualmark is run on a not-for-profit basis as a service to travellers and the tourism industry.  It's a role defined for Qualmark in the New Zealand Tourism Strategy 2015 to help achieve the industry's overall goal to enhance New Zealand's reputation as a world class visitor destination.
